The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) is a police unit that supports the 'protect and prepare' strands of the government’s counter terrorism strategy.
We support a network of about 190 counter terrorism security advisors (CTSAs) who work within local police forces as officers and staff. Their primary role is to provide help, advice and guidance on all aspects of counter terrorism protective security to specified industry sectors.
We provide the help, advice and guidance to government and industry to protect from terrorist threat.

Gavin McPherson, NaCTSO

Gavin joined counter terrorism policing in 2008 and after two years he joined Operation Fairway, a unit specialising in ID document abuse by those seeking to commit acts of terror. He was pivotal in expanding the reach of the Document Awareness Workshop from its original core team of three, to its current contingent of 48 accredited national training providers; a feat achieved in less than four years. Gavin has provided training to industry leaders, Border Force agents, military personnel and specialist stakeholders within the intelligence services.
Chris Dew, London Fire Brigade

- UK Fire and Rescue Embedded officer National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ, Protect & Prepare.
Chris is a senior fire brigade officer with 27 years service where he has served in a variety of posts both operational and managerial. Chris managed the London Fire Brigade’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear team’s response and planning for the London 2012 Olympic Games. He has an extensive knowledge of emergency service interoperability and he holds an operational role as a National Inter-Agency Liaison Officer (NILO) while on secondment to National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ, advising on interoperability.
Chris was awarded the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 2011.
Scott Gibbons, NCPP
Scott Gibbons is an Police Officer with over 22yrs operational experience. He spent 10 years in Uniformed Response Policing and a total of 15 years as a Firearms Officer, predominantly in the Metropolitan Police, Specialist Operations - Aviation Policing. He is now based in the Readiness and Response Team at the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters on behalf of the National Coordinator, Protect and Prepare.
